Character Information
Character Name: LinkCharacter Series: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Character Age: Somewhere around 14
Character Gender: Male
Original Canon
Canon Point: After the ending of ALTTP- Right after the Triforce sends him to Holodrum, but before he wakes up
Background Link: Link – Zelda Wiki || A Link To The Past – Zelda Wiki
Relevant games to this Link are A Link to the Past // Oracle of Seasons/Ages // Link’s Awakening
Personality: First of all, Link is a very helpful lad. He cares more about the well-being of total strangers he’s never seen before than about his own. Such as when Princess Zelda woke him up telepathically and then asked him to save her in the middle of the night. Any normal person would just have assumed this to be a bad dream, but not Link. He did get up and went to save her. As it is, throughout his adventures he helped plenty of strangers, without asking for anything in return. Nevermind most of them did decide to give him a reward for his work anyway.
Quite simply, he has a golden heart. When he obtained the Triforce and wished on it, he could have wished for something greedy. Most people would have wished for their own personal glory, they would have been selfish. But not at all, the contrary actually happened. Link wished for everyone’s well-being, his wish was to fix everything so that everyone’s life could get better. So that Hyrule could prosper as though Ganon had never existed. You could say he is a selfless incarnate. He will speak to anyone and bond with them- Given they’re not evil. Very friendly, but maybe a bit shy with important or old people. And with ladies.
Which leads to the most obvious: he is a hero. By his canon point he is even considered a Knight of Hyrule. He will always help those in need and fight the evil in any of its form. That’s what the Triforce put him through too, during the Oracle Series- They sent Link to fight in foreign lands he had whatsoever no link with, and he didn’t back down or flee- He helped the people there who needed him.
He is very attached to his family and friends. He’s lost all of his family that we know of, but as part of his wish his uncle returned, and he is shown to live and train with him still. Also, he is lazy. As all Links are. His favorite activity is to sleep- And the bed is his favorite accessory. Too bad he can’t take it with him around. In spite of being lazy though, he is gifted with the spirit of the hero and hence can face adversity and travel through the world if needed. Doesn’t mean he won’t complain and whine sometime- But he’ll do whatever is needed.
In spite of being non-canon, the manga gives more hints as far as his personality is concerned- And it is much welcome considering the lack of personality to someone like Link. He is quick and easy to anger when bad things are done to his friends, but he progressively learns to control himself. He also can pity and feel bad for the most evil bastards such as Aganhim, and would even be ready to forgive them- Except they stay evil to the end so he’ll have to kill them instead. He is playful, cheerful and easily embarrassed as well.
Abilities: Being a Hylians, and most specifically the Hero chosen by the Goddesses, he is most likely a notch above your average human when it comes to physical abilities, but only by a notch. One of the thing that makes Link great is that, he’s only a human and yet always end up kicking Ganon’s ass. He’s an excellent swordsman, and the sword he wields is the Golden Master Sword (an evolution of the Master Sword after the Dwarves brothers tampered it and the Great Fairy (a Goddess in the Japanese version) blessed it.
He can use a very large variety of tool and accessories, most of them of magical nature. In fact the number of accessories and equipment he got could make Solid Snake blush.
He can use magic but only through the use of special items, such as the medallions, the ice rod, etc. He is receptive to telepathy and can seemingly communicate with people hinted with such capacity, hinting he may himself have dormant telepathic ability.
He is also technically owner of the full Triforce- Which means his spirit is all sort of amazing and well-balanced (like all Links). Even though he won’t have the Triforce in the tower, he will have the Triforce symbol on the back of his hand as a testimony that he was once its owner/that he is the chosen hero.
